2019 / テラコッタ、パラシュートコード

サイズが大きく、叩いて締めながら制作するのがテラコッタのセオリーであるが、どのようにしたら自分の作業しやすい方法へもっていけるのか、また、好きな行為だけを抽出するように作品制作が出来ないかと考えていた。今までの制作方法として、使いたい素材や技法は常に存在するのに対し、完成形のイメージとしてフォルムを無理矢理に設定するような感覚があった。それは私にとってはあまり良い苦しさだとは思えなかった。

 

そこで、この制作では、テラコッタでビーズを作成し、紐で編むことによって立体を作ることとした。

 

単純作業が好きな自分が編む行為をひたすら続けられるように円形にし、中央から1段ずつ円を描くように外側に足していくことによって立体を作成することとした。これは毛糸で帽子を編む時と同じような方法である。粘土はビーズ状にし、アウトドア等に使用されるパラシュートコードで編むことで普段のテラコッタに対しての扱いとギャップがあることを意識した。テラコッタというハードな素材（私の中では動かすのが難しいので静のイメージ）を可塑性のある素材（動）で編み上げるという違和感を目立たせる為、コードは蛍光色で、人工的でスポーティーな素材を選び、可塑性を強調させたいと考えた。

 

編んでいく際に水平な円を作るのではなく、目を極端に増やしていくことによって入りきらなかった分がひだになり、上下に立ち上がる。そのウェーブにさらに増目していくことで円周を広げていった。

　紐のテンションと玉のぶつかり合いによってウェーブが立ち上がり、編む行為自体がそのまま構造になるようなイメージである。

 

　例えば布で何かを作った時、それを見せる為には何かに掛けて吊るしたり、ぬいぐるみのように自立させるには中に詰め物をしなければならないが、ずっとそこに違和感があった。出来れば粘土と紐だけでの構成で、芯材や骨組みは無い状態で自立させ、見せられないかと考えていた。テラコッタという素材自体は硬いものだが、作品全体としてはしなやかであること。また、それによって力を分散させたかった。これは布や糸など柔らかな素材だけを使用していたら意識しなかったかもしれない。

 

　反省点として、蛍光色のオレンジは擦れによって色がくすみやすかった為、時間の経過によって汚れているように見えるのではないかと心配している。また、小さなビーズでマケットを作成したが、マケットと比べて編んでいる紐に対して粘土の玉が重いため、どんどん広がるウェーブの重みに耐えきれず下に落ち、それによってギャザーの数が増え、波の上下の高さが低くなっている。ウェーブが収まる限界まで目を増やし、そこからはセーブしつつ編んでいったのだが、限界まで目を増やしたことによってビーズ同士がぶつかり、動きにくくなってしまった。

 

　そして、対荷重90kgのコードを使用していた為、切れたりしないか心配していたが、紐が切れるより先に粘土の玉が割れ始めた。現在展示しているのが今回の編み目でいうと限界のサイズではないかと思っている。

 

 

パラシュートコード：耐荷重90kg   2mm  8×50m=400m

粘土：19本×6kg=114kg

ビーズ：ひとつあたり6.7g   114000g/6.7=約17,000個　－ 水分量

 

 

 

The terracotta works is large size and produced by tap.I thought about that how can I get my own way of working and  I wanted to create a work by only my favorite acts.There have always been materials and techniques that I want to use as a production so far,there has been a sense of forcibly setting the form as a complete image.

I didn't think it was a good hardship for me.

 

Consequently,this time,I decided to create beads with terracotta and knit with strings.

I like simple task.I made a solid by making it circular so that I could continue the knitting action,and adding it to the outside in a circle from the center.This is similar to knitting a hat with knitting wool.Make beads with clay and knit with parachute cords used outdoors.There is a gap with ordinary terracotta production and this way of making.

I was conscious of it.I knit hard materials (image of static because it is difficult to move in me)with flexible materials (motion).

 

 

That is gap.That make it stand out,the code is fluorescent color,and I chose an artificial and sporty material and wanted to emphasize plasticity.

 

Creating a not horizontal circle when knitting. The amount that could not be entered by increasing the knitted stitch becomes a wave and rises up and down.The wave was further increased by increasing the knitted stitch.Waves rise by parachute cords tension and beads ball collision.

I'm thinking image that act of knitting is become the structure itself.

 

For example, when I make something out of cloth, I thinking about that need to hang it on something to show it, or to stuff it inside to make it stand like a stuffed animal. I feel there has always  discomfort.If possible, I wanted to show it as a self-standding structure with no core material or frame, and only composed of clay and string.The terracotta is hard material, but the work itself is supple.I also wanted to decomposition of force.So that it won't break.This may not have been think if only soft materials such as cloth and thread were used.

 

As a reflection, the fluorescent orange color was dull due to rubbing with clay.Also, I made a maquette with small beads, but the clay beads are heavier than the maquette beads.It can't stand the weight of the wave and falls down.As a result, the gather is increasing and the waves are low.By increasing the stitches to the limit, the beads collided and it became difficult to move.

 

And I used a parachute cord with a load capacity of 90kg, I was worried that it would break. However, the clay ball started to break before the string was cut.

 

I think that the size that is currently exhibited is the limit size of this stitch.
